Selecting a Call Report Object Type
Call reporting functionality supports multiple object types in order to meet the various business needs of different organizations and user roles. Each call object type can be assigned its own layout, per profile. Users can select a call object type and change the object type on new and planned calls. This allows different types of users to capture data relevant to their unique roles.
Who can use this feature?

Selecting a Call Object Type as

When users create a call report, a default call object type is applied. The default object type varies depending on settings enabled and which object types the user can access:
- When Defining a Default Call Object Type Based on Account Object Type is enabled, the default call object type is assigned based on the primary account’s object type. This overrides the default set at the object level.
- If a default is not specified through Defining a Default Call Object Type Based on Account Object Type, or if the default is restricted for the selected account, the default call object type assigned at the call2__v object level is used instead
- If Restricting Calls by Account Object Type is enabled and the object-level default object type is not among the allowed types, the first available allowed call object type is used as the default call object type
If a permitted object type is not available for recording the call, or if the user does not have Create permission for any of the allowed object types, the Record a Call action does not display on account detail pages or in the account list view.
To change the call object type, select a value from the Object Type picklist on the call report. Once the call report is saved or submitted, users cannot change the object type.
The picklist is limited to the object types the user’s profile is able to create, based on object type permission and restrictions like Restricting Calls by Account Object Type. If the object_type__v field is not configured for a user's layout, they cannot select an object type; the default object type is used when recording calls. Changing call object types from call2__v related lists on other objects is not supported.
When users change the object type on a new call, the call report reloads with the default layout for the newly selected object type. Field values edited by the user are not saved.
On the Browser platform, users are prompted to confirm the change when selecting a new object type.
When Browser users change the object type on planned calls, all previously saved picklist field values persist. If the saved picklist value is not available for the new object type, users must update the value in order to save or submit the call report.
When iPad or iPhone users change the object type on planned calls, the call report reloads with the default layout for the newly selected object type. Any data associated with the original object type is not saved.
