## Managing Footprints in Align

Footprints are groupings of geographies that Align operational users can use to assign entire groups of geographies to one or more territories at once, instead of individually. This reduces the setup required when assigning geographies to territories and helps maintain assignment consistency.

Changes to a footprint or geography are automatically updated in any territories assigned to the footprint.

### Configuring Managing Footprints for

To configure this feature:

1. Ensure [Configuring Align](../../Configuration/ConfiguringAlign.htm) is complete.
2. Ensure all appropriate [aln\_geography\_\_v](Geography.htm) records are generated.

### Creating Footprints as

To create a footprint:

1. Navigate to the **Footprints** tab.
2. Select **+ Create**.
3. Populate the following fields:

   * Name – Enter the name of the footprint
   * Start Date – The start date of the footprint
   * End Date – The end date of the footprint
4. Select either **Save** or **Save + Create**.

### Assigning Geographies to Footprints as

To assign geographies to footprints:

1. Navigate to the **Footprint Geographies** section of the appropriate aln\_footprint\_\_v record.
2. Select **+Create**.
3. Populate the following fields:

   * Geography – Select the appropriate geography
   * Start Date – The start date of the geography assignment
   * End Date – The end date of the geography assignment
4. Select **+ Add Row** to add another geography, or select **Save**.

To assign footprints to territories:

1. Navigate to the **Territory Footprints** section of the appropriate aln\_footprint\_\_v record.
2. Select **+Create**.
3. Populate the following fields:

   * Territory – Select the appropriate aln\_territory\_\_v record
   * Start Date – The start date of the assignment
   * End Date – The end date of the assignment
4. Select **+ Add Row** to add another territory, or select **Save**.

### Automatically Synchronizing Geography Territories with Footprints as

aln\_geography\_territory\_\_v records are automatically created and updated based on footprint assignments, ensuring account assignments reflect the geographies defined in the appropriate footprints. aln\_geography\_territory\_\_v records created via footprint synchronization have a source of Footprint and cannot be manually edited.

If users add or update geographies from a footprint, the corresponding aln\_geography\_territory\_\_v records for all territories assigned to that footprint are created or end dated accordingly.

If users update the assignment dates of an aln\_territory\_footprint\_\_v record, all related aln\_geography\_territory\_\_v records automatically updated to reflect the new start and end dates.
