## Creating and Managing Contracts and Contract Lines

Contracts allow users to capture an agreement with an account, or multiple accounts, to influence ordering and promotional behavior, or to dictate where to display products.

A contract has the following characteristics:

* Can apply to multiple accounts at the same time
* An account can have multiple contracts
* Stores attached documents
* Must be activated before users can capture signatures
* Are attached to accounts using contract partner records

Contract lines can only be created using the related list on the detail page of an unlocked contract. Contract lines inherit the object type of the contract.

To add contract lines:

1. Select **Create** in the Contract Lines section of the contract you just created.
2. Enter the **Start Date** and **End Date** if the Start Date and End Date for the Contract Line should be different from the Start Date and End Date of the Contract. If Contract Line Start Date and End Date are blank, the Contract Line inherits the Start Date and End Date of the Contract. This step is optional.
3. Select the appropriate **Product**:

   * For sales\_\_v and listing\_\_v contract lines object types, only one contract line is allowed per product, per contract. For example, two contract lines for the same contract cannot both lookup Cholecap.
   * For sales\_\_v contract lines, the product selected must be of type Order, Product Group, or Detail. Users can also leave the product lookup blank. If users define a contract line without a product, achievement totals for the contact line are calculated by summing all orders for the account within the validity period
   * For listing\_\_v contract lines, the product selected must be of type Inventory Monitoring. Listing contract lines must be associated with a product.
4. Complete the appropriate Order Management or Inventory Monitoring fields, depending on contract object type.
5. Select **Save**.

### Activating Contracts as

[![Closed](../../../Skins/Default/Stylesheets/Images/transparent.gif)Contracts Admin](#)

When a contract is created, it is initially in draft status and cannot yet be used. To use a contract, contracts admins must activate it.

To activate a contract:

1. Select a contract from the **Contracts** tab.
2. Select **Activate** from the All Actions menu.
3. Select **Save**.

Contracts and associated contract lines are locked when a contract is activated. This ensures no unintended changes are made to an activated contract. When a contract is activated, the contract and associated contract lines cannot be edited or deleted. Attachments can still be edited.

### Unlocking Contracts as

[![Closed](../../../Skins/Default/Stylesheets/Images/transparent.gif)Contracts Admin](#)

Contracts and associated contract lines are locked when a contract is activated. This ensures no unintended changes are made to an activated contract. To make changes to an activated contract or contract lines, contracts admins must first unlock the contract.

To unlock a contract:

1. Select the **Contracts** tab.
2. Select **Unlock** from the All Actions menu for the contract you want to unlock.
