## Providing Comment Reasons for Event Business Rules

Business admin users can configure a picklist of reasons for end users to select when end users trigger violations of an Event Business Rule. This enables end users to still provide necessary context for the violation, while mitigating the compliance risks associated with unrestricted free text fields.

### Configuring Comment Reasons for Soft Warnings for

To configure this feature:

1. Ensure the following features are configured:

   * [Configuring Events Management](../Configuration/Config.htm)
   * [Event Business Rules Overview](EventBusinessRules.htm) – Including any of the appropriate business rule types:
   * [Creating Event Attendance Rules](AttdRules.htm)
   * [Creating Expense Limit Rules](ExpenseLimitRules.htm)
   * [Creating Event Speaker Rules](SpeakerRules.htm)
   * [Creating Required Event Material Rules](EventMatsRules.htm)
2. Navigate to **Admin > Users & Groups > Permission Sets**.
3. Select the appropriate permission set.
4. Select the **Objects** tab.
5. Grant the following permissions:

   | Object | Object Permission | Object Types | Fields | Field Permission |
   | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
   | em\_business\_rule\_\_v | CRED | All appropriate object types | * comment\_type\_\_v * comment\_reason\_\_v | Edit |
   | em\_event\_override\_\_v | CRED | n/a | comment\_reason\_\_v | Edit |
6. Navigate to **Admin > Configuration > Objects > em\_business\_rule\_\_v > Fields > comment\_reason\_\_v**.
7. Add all appropriate comment reasons as values to the picklist.

To configure comment reasons for event business rules:

1. Edit the appropriate **em\_business\_rule\_\_v** record.

   The rule must have a warning\_type\_\_v of soft\_warning\_\_v.
2. Ensure the **comment\_required\_\_v** field is one of the following values:

   * required\_\_v – The end user is required to select a reason before dismissing the warning
   * optional\_\_v – The end user may select a reason, but is not required to before dismissing the warning
3. Select **picklist\_\_v** for the comment\_type\_\_v field.
4. Select **Save**.

### Using Comment Reasons for an Event Business Rule as

When end users execute an event business rule that triggers a soft warning violation, the soft warning modal displays with a Comment reason picklist.

End users can then select a reason from one of the defined picklist values before continuing. If the comment\_required\_\_v field of the business rule is set to required\_\_v, users are required to select a reason from the picklist before continuing.
