## Requiring Medical Inquiry Signatures

Customers often require end users to capture an HCP's signature before submitting a Medical Inquiry. This can reduce or eliminate inaccurate requests, misrepresentations, or other issues.

### Configuring Required Signatures for

To configure this feature:

1. Ensure [Configuring Medical Inquiries](Configuring_Medical_Inquiries.htm) is complete.
2. Add the **signature\_date\_\_v** field to the appropriate medical\_inquiry\_\_v layout.
3. Navigate to **Business Admin > Objects > Veeva Settings** and edit the Global Veeva Settings record.
4. Select the **DISABLE\_MI\_SIGN\_BUTTON** checkbox Veeva Setting to prevent users from clearing a signature and changing the medical inquiry details after an initial signature is captured. This step is optional.

If the signature\_date\_\_v field is on the medical\_inquiry\_\_v layout, the Signature Date field displays when an end user creates or edits a medical inquiry.
Once the end user enters the current date and time, these values are stamped on the signature\_date\_\_v field. The delivery\_method\_\_v, delivery details, account\_\_v, and inquiry\_text\_\_v field values are locked on the record. If multiple product inquiries are configured, the product\_\_v field is also locked.

If the signature\_date\_\_v field is on the medical\_inquiry\_\_v layout, the Sign action displays when an end user creates or edits a medical inquiry.
Once the end user accepts the signature, the signature is stored in a Base64 encoded string in the signature\_\_v field. The current date and time are stamped on the signature\_date\_\_v field. The delivery\_method\_\_v, delivery details, account\_\_v, and inquiry\_text\_\_v field values are locked on the record. If multiple product inquiries are configured, the product\_\_v field is also locked.

The Sign button does not display on the medical inquiry after a signature has been accepted if the DISABLE\_MI\_SIGN\_BUTTON\_\_v Veeva Setting is selected, preventing users from clearing a signature and changing the medical inquiry details after an initial signature is captured. Users cannot delete signed records.
