## Creating Products in the Product Catalog

Business admins can create product\_\_v records to populate the Vault's Product Catalog, while also defining whether each product should be included in various product-driven processes in Vault CRM, for example, detailing or product metrics.

Several product types are immediately available to customers, though customers can create their own product types to suit their business needs.

To add products to the Product Catalog, create product\_\_v records with the following fields populated:

* name\_\_v
* product\_type\_\_v – See [Components of the Product Catalog](ConfigProduct.htm) for the complete list of various product types
* product\_identifier\_\_v – This field is optional, but enables end users to search for and identify products in an additional way
* All other relevant product\_\_v fields
* status\_\_v = Active

When creating sample products, ensure the name\_\_v field on the product\_\_v record matches the API name for a sample\_\_v picklist value on the lot\_catalog\_\_v object. To create lot catalogs for a product, the product name must match a sample\_\_v picklist value API name.

#### Excluding Products from Detailing, Product Metrics, or Promotional Items

You can disable specific products from various other product-driven functionality in Vault CRM.

Select the check box as needed to disable any of the following behaviors:

* No Cycle Plans - Prevents the product from displaying in any cycle plan view. See [Excluding Products from Classic Cycle Plans](../CyclePlans/ClassicCP/Creating/ExcludeProduct.htm) for more information.
* No Details – Prevents the product from being detailed. See [Detailing Products on the Call Report](../Call_Reporting_2/Executing/Activities/ProductDetailing.htm) for more information.
* No Metrics – Excludes the product from [Product Metrics](ProdMetrics/ProdMetrics.htm)
* Require Key Message On Detail - Requires users to add a key message when detailing the selected product. See [Using Key Messages on the Call Report](../Call_Reporting_2/Executing/Activities/KeyMessages.htm) for more information.
* Restricted - Requires special permits, age verification, specific packaging, or pre-approval to be handled

To require a product discussion when detailing this product, select Yes from the Require Discussion drop-down menu. See [Capturing Product Discussions on the Call Report](../Call_Reporting_2/Executing/Activities/CaptureProductDiscussions.htm) for more information.

For information on using the No Promo Items field, see [Configuring Call Sampling](../CallSampling/Config/ConfiguringCS.htm) or [Configuring Sample Requests (BRCs)](../CallSampling/Config/ConfiguringBRCs.htm).

#### Customizing Product Sort Order

Business admins can define a product's sort order by populating the sort\_code\_\_v field of product\_\_v records. Products first sort by their sort\_code\_\_v fields, then by their name\_\_v fields in alphanumeric order.
