## Capturing Custom Text

Uses can add extra product details in a custom text field on call reports, helping capture a more complete view of HCP interactions and product activity. Users can enter additional product information in a custom text field for the following product transactions:

* Receiving product shipments (Browser only)
* Creating a product transfer, adjustment, or return (Browser only)
* Recording a call (Browser, iPad, iPhone)

For example, when users disburse co-pay cards to an HCP, they input the range of co-pay card BIN numbers on the call report to track which HCPs receive which co-pay cards. This functionality is available for all product types—samples, BRCs, alternative samples, promotional items, high value promotional items, reprints, and custom product types.

### Configuring Custom Text Capture for

To configure this feature:

1. Ensure [Configuring Sample Management](../ConfiguringSM.htm) is complete.
2. Navigate to **Users & Groups > Permission Sets**.
3. Select the appropriate permission set.
4. Grant sample admin users the following permissions:

   | sample\_transaction\_\_v | n/a | n/a | custom\_text\_\_v | Edit |
5. Grant View permission to the **st\_custom\_text\_field\_control\_\_v** field control on the sample\_transaction\_\_v object.
6. Grant View permission to the **sot\_custom\_text\_field\_control\_\_v** field control on the sample\_order\_transaction\_\_v object, to enable custom text for BRCs.
7. Navigate to **Configuration > Objects > product\_\_v > Layouts**.
8. Add the **custom\_text\_\_v** field to the appropriate product\_\_v layouts.

To configure this feature:

2. Navigate to **Users & Groups > Permission Sets**.

4. Grant end users the following permissions:

5. Grant View permission to the **st\_custom\_text\_field\_control\_\_v** field control on the sample\_transaction\_\_v object.
6. Grant View permission to the **sot\_custom\_text\_field\_control\_\_v** field control on the sample\_order\_transaction\_\_v object, to enable custom text for BRCs.
7. Add custom text field controls to the appropriate layouts:

* Navigate to **Configuration > Objects > sample\_transaction\_\_v > Layouts**
* Add the **st\_custom\_text\_field\_control\_\_v** field control to the same section as the st\_sample\_field\_control\_\_v control on sample\_transaction\_\_v layouts
* Navigate to **Configuration > Objects > sample\_order\_transaction\_\_v > Layouts**
* Add the **sot\_custom\_text\_field\_control\_\_v** field control to the same section as the sot\_sample\_field\_control\_\_v control on sample\_order\_transaction\_\_v layouts, for BRCs

8. Add custom text fields to the appropriate layouts:

   * Navigate to **Configuration > Objects > call2\_sample\_\_v > Layouts**
   * Add the **custom\_text\_\_v** field to the appropriate layouts on the call2\_sample\_\_v object
   * Navigate to **Configuration > Objects > sample\_receipt\_\_v > Layouts**
   * Add the **custom\_text\_\_v** field to the layout assigned to the default object type on the sample\_receipt\_\_v object, if not already added
9. Enable the appropriate **product\_\_v** records for custom text capture. In order for users to capture custom text for a particular product, sample admin users must enable the product\_\_v record:
   * Navigate to either **All > Product Catalog tab** or **Business Admin > Objects > product\_\_v**.
   * Select the appropriate product\_\_v record
   * Select the checkbox for the custom\_text\_\_v field
   * Select Save

Optionally, the custom\_text\_\_v field can be made required for end users. To make the custom\_text\_\_v field required:

1. Navigate to the **Layouts** tab for the appropriate objects.
2. Add the **custom\_text\_\_v** field to the appropriate layouts.
3. Create a layout rule to hide the **custom\_text\_\_v** field from layouts, since field controls are used to display the custom text input.
4. Create a layout rule to make the **custom\_text\_\_v** field required on the appropriate layouts.

Marking the custom\_text\_\_v field as required at the object level is not supported.

To capture custom text on a call report or on a sample transaction, enter the appropriate text in the custom\_text\_\_v field.

The custom\_text\_\_v field is read-only once users do any of the following:

* Accept an HCP signature on the call report
* Submit the call report
* Submit a sample transfer, adjustment, receipt, or return
* Submit an allocation transfer or allocation adjustment
