Importing Approval Rules into Modeling and Production

Approval Rules and their criteria are included in the publishing process from modeling into production, as well as the import process from production to modeling. This enables admins to avoid manually recreating Approval Rules before every feedback period of an upcoming cycle, since they can import the production Approval Rules when creating the model project.

To configure this feature:

  1. Ensure the following features are configured:

  2. Navigate to Admin > Users & Groups > Permission Sets.
  3. Select the appropriate permission set.
  4. Select the Objects tab.

  5. Grant the following permissions:

Publishing Approval Rules into Production as

When a model is published to production, all of the model’s aln_approval_rule__v records, as well as each of those records associated aln_approval_rule_criteria__v records, are published alongside the rest of the models data.

aln_approval_rule__v records publish as approval_rule_prod__v records with the following fields automatically populated:

  • approval_rule_id__v – Populates using the following format:

    aln_field_force__v.ID::challenge_type__v::approval_rule_type__v

  • approval_rule_type__v – The approval_rule_type__v field of the corresponding aln_approval_rule__v record
  • challenge_type__v – The challenge_type__v field of the corresponding aln_approval_rule__v record
  • aln_field_force__v – The aln_field_force__v record corresponding to the aln_approval_rule__v record’s aln_field_force_model__v record
  • filter_logic__v – The filter_logic__v field of the corresponding aln_approval_rule__v record
  • message__v – The message__v field of the corresponding aln_approval_rule__v record

aln_approval_rule_criteria__v records publish as aln_approval_rule_criteria_prod__v records with the following fields automatically populated:

  • aggregate_attribute__v – The aggregate_attribute__v field of the corresponding aln_approval_rule_criteria__v record
  • approval_rule_prod__v – References the corresponding approval_rule_prod__v record
  • field__v – The field__v field of the corresponding aln_approval_rule_criteria__v record
  • object__v – The object__v field of the corresponding aln_approval_rule_criteria__v record
  • operator__v – The operator__v field of the corresponding aln_approval_rule_criteria__v record
  • value__v – The value__v field of the corresponding aln_approval_rule_criteria__v record

Creating Approval Rules in Production

In addition to approval_rule_prod__v records being created as part of the publishing process, users can also directly create approval_rule_prod__v records and their criteria:

  1. Navigate to the Feedback Approval Rules related list of the appropriate aln_field_force__v record.

  2. Select Create. See Approval Rules for more information on creating Approval Rules.

Importing Approval Rules into Modeling

When production information is imported into modeling in preparation for the upcoming sales cycle, all of the approval_rule_prod__v records associated with included field forces also import into the new model.
